"no mames guey... te quiero tommy!!!" [28 Aug 2008|09:26pm]
[ mood | nerdy ]

So I've pretty much been on my death bed since Friday after eating at 2 different restaurants that made me sick over the weekend and catching one of the worst colds ever. But none of that matters because I SAW RADIOHEAD FOR FREE. yes, free. We were originally supposed to go see them in SF at the Outside Lands Festival but that didnt work out. We were also gonna try to go to the Hollywood Bowl and get tickets, but laziness, sickness, and visiting relatives got in the way of those plans. Wednesday I ended up calling in sick to work because I got pretty bad. Sick enough not to go to work, but not sick enough to go to Radiohead, haha. My parents had some business to take care of in San Diego so Alex, my brother and I tagged along. We dropped them off and took the car, swung by for Jeff who was visiting his mom in Carlsbad, and headed down to Chula Vista without tickets. Long story short, a Filter Mag/ANTICS crew was there giving out tickets to anyone who would make an ass out of themselves playing Rock Band. Somehow I ended up the singer, but luckily Alex sucked so bad at drums that we got a game over within the first 30 seconds of Wonderwall. After a few pictures, all 4 of us were handed free lawn tickets for the Radiohead show. We found a good spot in front of the lawn section amongst a bunch of people who drove up from Mexico and witnessed an AMAZING setlist!

Everything In Its Right Place [01 Jul 2006|03:58pm]
[ mood | thirsty ]

So most of us knew that getting tickets to see Radiohead in L.A. was going to be pretty much impossible, so the shows in Berkeley or SD would really be the only choice. I almost decided not to go up north, but I'm really glad I went. The bay area is pretty awesome, we got around pretty easily, and I got to shop at H&M again finally, after a 2 year hiatus. I didn't do as much damage to my bank account as I thought I would, but picked up a few things nonetheless. Had some real good grub and hit up some pretty cool bars (the "irish" bar had a real irishman for a bartender and some really good tastin' guinness!). We also got to hang out with Andy who happened to be in town! Saw Johnny Greenwood's clone (aka the dude from Phantom Planet) walking down Haight Street. Drove down the "crookedest" street in the United States. Crossed the Golden Gate bridge. Ran into JD and Anthony, some of my pals from the CTO. But the best part was seeing RADIOHEAD for the first time ever. I mean, not only did we get Black Star, but we also got a little taste of True Love Waits (now you can be really jealous, Hugo). My favorite songs of the night though were Everything In Its Right Place and Myxomatosis. The stage set up was great, the band sounded really tight, and Thom Yorke did a great job of interacting with the crowd. Anyway, here's the setlist:

01 Airbag
02 2+2=5
03 Where I End And You Begin
04 15 Step
05 Kid A
06 Dollars And Cents
07 Down Is The New Up
08 Nude
09 Paranoid Android
10 No Surprises
11 The Gloaming
12 All I Need
13 Climbing Up The Walls
14 Go Slowly
15 Myxomatosis
16 Bangers 'N Mash
17 How To Disappear Completely

Encore 1
18 Fake Plastic Trees
19 Arpeggi
20 Black Star
21 True Love Waits (Thom only on Rhodes, intro to EIIRP)
22 Everything In Its Right Place

Encore 2
23 Bodysnatchers
24 The Tourist

I also had tickets to see Radiohead in San Diego on Monday. However, I figured it would be pretty much impossible to make it on time after work (not to mention, I’d be super tired at work the next morning) so I sold them. After the Berkeley show, I kinda wish I hadn’t. So Monday rolls around and Jennie asks if I wanna go on Tuesday so I said fuck yes and emailed tons of people on craigslist and got a response! We didn’t leave Anaheim until 6:30 but we were determined to make it on time. Made it to the venue just as Radiohead started playing their first song! It was wonderful… except it felt like they didn’t play long enough. Here’s the setlist for that night:

01 Airbag
02 The National Anthem
03 Where I End And You Begin
04 15 Step
05 Exit Music (For A Film)
06 Bodysnatchers
07 My Iron Lung
08 Go Slowly
09 Videotape
10 I Might Be Wrong
11 Climbing Up The Walls
12 All I Need
13 Pyramid Song
14 Spooks
15 Idioteque
16 Myxomatosis
17 Bangers 'n Mash
18 Bones

Encore 1
19 Like Spinning Plates
20 A Wolf At The Door
21 Down Is The New Up
22 Fake Plastic Trees

Encore 2
23 Nude
24 Everything In Its Right Place

here's a short vid I took of Idioteque:

[ mood | nervous ]

I need to stop letting Hugo pick movies. He dragged me to see 'The King' w/ Gael Garcia Bernal, but we couldn't figure out what the hell it was about. Hugo tried to set it in the context of a Greek Tragedy, but failed. I don't really recommend it. Oh well, Gael is still hot.

Been hanging out with Josh lately. Its kinda nice having my friend back after so long.

What's this? I'm finally gonna make it to SF? and I'm FINALLY gonna see Radiohead??!! yeaaaaaaaaaaaah!!!

see you all next week!

Lately I've been missing the drive out to West L.A. (say what??!!) but Orange County is super fuckin lame. I need to get transferred ASAP. I need to move out too.

I've been watching Shaun of the Dead over and over again. I think I may have a problem.

I'm still trying to figure out why he had my number saved on his phone (the new phone that he obtained a while AFTER we broke up).

drunk-dial friends, not an ex-girlfriend. and don't have your current girlfriend or whatever do it for you. leaving insulting voicemails doesn't quite help either.

thanks.

Welcome to the 21st century [09 Apr 2006|05:21pm]
guess who finally got DSL? that's right, ME!!! after 7 fuckin years of suffering with crappy dial-up service we finally decided to upgrade. According to a certain someone, my DSL speed is shit, but hey, I'll live. Songs under 2 minutes is good enough for me.

so last night was the Elbow show... which I didn't make it to. My co-worker got a pair of Luis Miguel tickets for her birthday on Friday night but her best friend woke up sick as hell the next day (from all the partying the night before) so she was left without a date for the concert. I wasn't all that interested in going because I really wanted to see Elbow but I felt pretty bad about her going by herself. I decided what the heck, if my mom loves this guy, so can I (for one night). Anyway, for those of you who don't know, Luis Miguel is this international pop star (rumour has it that a Luis Miguel cd was found in Saddam Hussein's hideout) from Mexico. I grew up with all his music because my mom is a crazy fan, so I was secretly singing along throughout the entire show. Anyway, it turns out we were in a club suite and we had a really good view, although we were surrounded by a bunch of older couples.. I have to admit, the dude is a pretty awesome performer with an amazing voice. I decided that when I'm married and get to be older (and richer) like some of those people I'm gonna make my significant other take me to see a Luis Miguel show... haha.

Anyone been to the Natural History Museum lately? They have the Sonic Scenery and Mysterious Bog People exhibits. I also want to check out Agitated Images: John Heartfirled and German Photomontage, 1920-1938 at the Getty. Anyone want to come with?

Btw, I discovered I am pretty much ambidextrous. weird.

[ mood | sick ]

I don't know if it was the excessive amount of booze or the spring rolls from the Pho place with the 'C' grade hanging on the window, but I feel like shiiiiiit.

on a better note, the Goldfrapp show was fucking GREAT! Crazy animal dancers and all.

even better was the fact that even though it was a sold out show, we were able to walk up to the box office (no line) and buy floor tickets for face value. woooooo! 10 minutes later there was a line going around the corner. Suckers!

New Music... Thursday??? [23 Feb 2006|10:31pm]
so today I FINALLY received my shipment from Tower Records. So much for the free 2-day Fed Ex shipping they promised for spending $100+ (I submitted my order 7 days ago, btw). fuckers. Anyway, I picked up a few neat little records and couple of dvds. Hours and hours of quality entertainment ahead of me... I'm stoked.

Accomplishments for the week:

*almost finished sorting out my itunes (I know 'almost' isn't really an accomplishment but hey, what do you do when you have 3,000+ mp3s and all the file names are screwed up???)

*went for jog (yeah, we'll see how long I'll keep this one up... I give it until next week)

*went thru the entire week (errr, minus the holiday on monday) without being late to work.

*went and saw Les Savy Fav and the Hold Steady @ the Avalon. great show and great company (including Adam Brody, haha).

Plans for this weekend:

* Hammer Museum on Friday night (maybe). I want to see Michelle!!

* Israel's drunkfest on Saturday night

* Sleep early on Sunday night

* maybe finish those damn mix cds I owe everyone???

come on, TAKE ME OUT!

Even if he doesn't bench press or have one of those cool Swatch watches with the thick wrist band like my former Asian crush, he was still the bestest Valentine of them all. He sent me an e-card and even thought about the top 5 things he likes about me.

Hopefully no weirdness will arise from our very short-lived, day-long internet romance.
